Map Showing General Location of Drakes Bay
The location of Drakes Bay is shown on the left side of the map, approximately halfway up. (San Francisco is located in the lower right corner.) This general location has long been identified as Drake’s careening site, though this claim has also long been disputed. I describe a more specific site – Drakes Estero, the inlet just north of Drakes Bay – among the five sites I present in the podcast.

This map proves or shows nothing other than the California coast. Nothing here can be used to show Drake’s anchorage other than the name Drakes Bay which was given in the late 1800s by the U.S. Geodesic surveyor George Davidson who said he had to put it someplace, while ignoring flora & fauna along the ethnography.
