These maps provide (a) an 1824 overview of Mexican territories, including both Texas and Alta California, and (b) the major campaigns of the U.S.-Mexico War in both eastern Mexico and Alta California.

Campaigns of the U.S.-Mexico War.  This map shows the major campaigns of the U.S.-Mexico War in eastern Mexico.   The map also shows the major campaigns and battle sites in Alta California, including Fremont’s 1845-46 march into California, the Bear Flag Revolt, Sloat’s journey from Mazatlán to Monterey, the flag raising in Yerba Buena, Stockton’s and Kearney’s journeys to Southern California, and the Battle of San Pasqual.  The map concludes with the Battle of the San Gabriel River in January 1847; it does not show the subsequent Battle of La Mesa or the Capitulation of Cahuenga.  The map also omits Stockton’s backtracking along the California coast, Fremont’s loop into Oregon and his march south to Los Angeles, and other less pivotal battles.  Wikimedia Commons.  ( File:Mexican–American War (without Scott’s Campaign)-en.svg – Wikimedia Commons
